Martin’s Game-Winner Lifts Giants Past Lions 12-11 in OT

La PLUME, Pa. – Trailing 7-2 at halftime, the Keystone College women's lacrosse team battled back and outscored visiting Bryn Athyn College 9-4 in the second half and won 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Giants secure an undefeated CSAC regular season at 10-0 and improve to 11-3 overall on the year. Keystone earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament and will host No. 4 seed Rosemont College (3-7 CSAC) on Wednesday, May 1 at 4 p.m.

The Lions fall to 8-4, 7-3 CSAC and will be the No. 2 seed in the postseason, hosting No. 3 seed Notre Dame of Maryland (7-3 CSAC) on Wednesday.

After be down 7-2 at intermission, the Giants made it a 7-3 contest following a goal from senior Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady). The Lions responded and went ahead 9-3 with 24 minutes left.

Keystone then rattled off five unanswered goals to get within one, 9-8, thanks to three goals by junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin).

Cortes once again made it a one-goal game at 10-9 with 9:41 to play and Robinson got the Giants closer at 11-10 with 1:27 to go.

With only three seconds left in regulation, sophomore Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) – who fittingly transferred to Keystone from Bryn Athyn – netted the game-tying goal on a free-position man-up goal to send the contest to sudden death overtime.

In the extra session, it was Martin once again on a free-position man-up goal to lift the Giants to the exciting CSAC regular season finale victory.

The contest was a yellow-card frenzy as 10 were issued, including eight in the second half and overtime.

Overall, Robinson tallied four goals and two assists and chipped in five ground balls, five draw controls and six caused turnovers. Martin enjoyed three goals while Cortes and senior Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) both finished with two goals each.

Junior Daphne Leenas (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) made 10 saves in net for the win.
