Softball Splits at Centenary on Sunday; Earns No. 3 Seed in CSAC Playoffs

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Keystone College softball team salvaged a split at Centenary University on Sunday, winning game one, 10-2, before falling in game two, 12-9.

The Giants conclude the regular season at 14-26 (9-5 CSAC) and earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament from May 3-4 at No. 1 seed Wilson College.

This is the program's first playoff appearance since the 2013 season.

Keystone will open the playoffs against No. 2 seed Cedar Crest on Friday, May 3 at 10 a.m. The Cyclones are the No. 4 seed in the postseason, sitting at 15-19, 9-5 CSAC.

The double elimination tournament schedule is as follows (all games at Wilson):

FIRST ROUND - Friday, May 3
10 a.m. Game 1: #3 Keystone vs. #2 Cedar Crest
Noon Game 2: #4 Centenary vs. #1 Wilson
2 p.m. Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 (elimination game)
4 p.m. Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND - Saturday, May 4
10 a.m. Game 5: Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 (elimination game)

Game One: Keystone 10, Centenary 2

The Giants exploded for 10 runs on 14 hits, including a six-run seventh inning, to take the opener.

Junior Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished 1-for-3 with a solo homer to right center in the seventh. Sophomore Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) enjoyed a 4-for-5 day with two RBI while freshman Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle), senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and freshman Brittany Vasquez (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) all collected two hits apiece.

Hughes drove in two with a double to center in the first. In the circle, the righty earned the win, going all seven innings, striking out two while allowing no earned runs.

Junior Kassadi Woods (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) and senior Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) also drove in one run each.

Game Two: Centenary 12, Keystone 9

The second contest was a back-and-forth affair and despite having six errors, Centenary held on for the win.

Lloyd blasted a two-run bomb to left center in the first and finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. The junior finished the regular season hitting .589 with 13 HR, 52 RBI, 12 doubles, 25 walks and a 1.152 slugging percentage.

Freshman Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) went 2-for-5 with two runs while Troy finished 2-for-4 with three runs. Junior Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) enjoyed a 2-for-4 outing and Mokychic added a two-run blast to center in the second. Mokychic is hitting .438 this year.

Sophomore Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) suffered the loss, striking out one while allowing five earned in 1 2/3 innings. Hughes pitched the final 4 1/3, allowing one earned run.
