Giants Enjoy 2-0 Win at Sweet Briar

AMHERST, Va. - The Keystone College field hockey team enjoyed a 2-0 road victory against Sweet Briar College in CSAC action on Saturday, played at Amherst County High School.

  • With the win, the Giants improve to 11-5 (5-0 CSAC) while the Vixens drop to 10-6 (3-3 CSAC).

Standout Performers

  • Taylor Cercone (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman) broke a scoreless tie in the 34th minute, caging her second goal of the year to give KC a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Cercone made one defensive save and has five defensive stops in the last two games.
  • Shannon Green (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) enjoyed her third goal of the year in the 43rd minute thanks to an assist by Vicky Mainero (Francisco Alvarez, Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Patrick's College), to hand Keystone a 2-0 cushion. Mainero led all players with five shots on target.
  • Courtney Dwyer (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), Alex Williams (Elkton, Md./The Tome School), and Green combined for eight shots on the day.
  • Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied three stops to earn the clean sheet.

Inside the Box Score

  • Keystone was outshot by SBC 8-3 in the opening half but head coach Ashley Irwin and her staff made the correct adjustments as the Giants outshot the Vixens 14-2 in the second half.
  • The Giants held an 8-6 edge in penalty corners, including a 6-2 margin in the second stanza.
