La PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone College wrestling team enjoyed two victories in Saturday's home-opening tri-match against visiting Rowan College of South Jersey Gloucester and Sussex County Community College.
Prior to the event, the athletic department honored former wrestling coach Larry Fornicola with a banner, which is displayed in Gambal Athletic Center.
Current head coach Lance Moore, Bernie Fornicola, and Hall of Famers Neil Duncan and Dennis Coffinberger all expressed a few words of gratitude.
The Giants opened the day with a 31-18 win over the Rowan Roadrunners. At 141, Derek Torres (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) won by decision, 4-0 and at 174, Jonathan Grimm (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) won by major decision, 9-0.
CJ Riccobono (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial), Elijah Morder (Juniata Valley, Pa./Juniata Valley), Brandon Crusen (Scranton, Pa./Scranton), and Jeremy McGuigan (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) all enjoyed falls, as Keystone battled back from an early 12-3 deficit.
Following the Sussex/Rowan match (Rowan, 48-9), Keystone enjoyed a 53-6 victory over the Sussex Skylanders, as Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) notched a win by fall at 285.
There were eight exhibition bouts on Saturday as Christian Micikas (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) won by fall (4:40) over his opponent from Rowan and Crusen collected a tech fall win (19-3; 6:22) against Sussex.
