Softball Drops DH at Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Keystone College softball team dropped a doubleheader at Cedar Crest College on Saturday, falling to the Falcons 13-12 in game one due to a walk-off homer, followed by a 13-4 defeat in 5 innings.
 
  • The Giants are now 14-6 (14-4 CSAC) and clinched a berth into the CSAC Tournament from May 7-8, with seeding still to be announced.
  • The Falcons improve to 14-2 overall (14-2 CSAC) and have also clinched a postseason spot.
 
Game One: Cedar Crest 13, Keystone 12
 
  • KC jumped out to an 8-0 lead, thanks to a 6-run 2nd frame.
  • Cedar Crest battled back and claimed a 9-8 lead after a 6-run 5th.
  • The Giants reclaimed a 12-11 lead in the 7th, thanks to a go-ahead 3-run blast by Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy).
  • However, the Falcons won on a walk-off 2-run shot in the bottom of the 7th.
  • Johnson finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBI & 3 runs scored.
  • Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI & 1 run scored.
  • Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles & 2 runs.
  • Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) & Erin Dunn (Harveys Lake, Pa./Tunkhannock) went 2-for-4 and combined for 3 RBI & 3 runs.
  • Marlena Pegula (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) earned the  start & tossed 4.2 frames, with 2 strikeouts, 5 flyouts & 6 groundouts on 88 pitches.
  • Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) tossed 2 innings, striking out 1 while forcing 2 flyouts & 3 groundouts on 37 pitches.
 
Game Two: Cedar Crest 13, Keystone 4 (5 innings)
 
  • The Falcons jumped out to a 12-0 lead, thanks to a 6-run 1st inning.
  • Keystone tallied 7 hits but suffered 4 errors.
  • Mokychic went 2-for-3 while Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) & Ashten Staton (Deposit, NY /Deposit) both tallied 1 RBI.
  • Hannah Dickson (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) tossed 1 inning while Kylee Kerstetter (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) & Madolyn Fernandes (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) combined for 3 innings with 2 strikeouts.
