AUBURN, N.Y. – In game seven of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, Auburn, N.Y. Regional, #3 seed Keystone (22-6) held a 6-0 lead going into the eighth inning, however, #6 seed Merchant Marine Academy (18-4) pushed seven runs across the final two innings, sending the Giants home in a heartbreaker, 7-6.
 Â
In the bottom of the first, Keystone opened the scoring thanks to an RBI single by senior
Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) to make it 1-0.
Â
The Giants lead grew to 3-0 on an RBI single by junior
Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) in the third inning and a run scoring on a Mariners error in the fourth.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, the Giants added two more runs of insurance, by way of an RBI double by sophomore
Derrick Cancel (Orlando, FLA.)Â and a sacrifice fly by freshman
Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella).
Â
Senior
Nick Carlini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) scored the run to make it 6-0 Keystone in the eighth, on a sacrifice fly by junior

Â
Merchant Marine Academy, despite a 6-0 deficit in the bottom of the eighth, pushed four runs across to cut the Giant lead to 6-4.
Â
In the ninth inning, the Mariners loaded the bases against freshman
Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y.) and tied the game 6-6.
Â
After a strikeout by Gravel, with the bases loaded again and one out, a balk was called on Gravel that seemingly ended the game.
Â
Upon review of the call some minutes later, the umpires elected to reverse the balk call and the teams took the field again.
Â
After the confusion and restart of the game, the Mariners saw just one pitch and won the contest on a walk-off sacrifice fly, 7-6.
Â
FreshmanÂ
Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J.) got the start for the Giants, and threw 7+ strong innings, allowing four runs, four hits, three walks and struck out two.
Â
Senior
Matt Tarabola (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) threw a scoreless inning, striking out one, but it was freshmanÂ
Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y.) taking the loss, pitching 2/3 of an inning, allowing three runs, three hits, two walks and struck out one. The runs were the first Gravel had allowed all season.
Â
Ben Kane started for Merchant Marine Academy and allowed three runs (two earned), six hits, a walk and three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Â
Andrew Hunt also allowed three runs and five hits, before Quinton Heck took home the win, shutting the door on the Giants, allowing just two hits in 1 1/3 innings.
The season comes to an end for Keystone and it finishes with a 22-6 mark and a fourth place finish in the Auburn, N.Y. Regional. Another fantastic season for the Giants, as they earned their 16th consecutive conference championship.
