Field Hockey Falls in Season Opener

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College field hockey team suffered a 3-0 setback to Keuka College in their first game of the 2021 season.

The Wolves would score 52 seconds into the game when Skylar Gilmore would provide the first goal of the match off an assist by Alyssa Muszak to put Keuka up 1-0.

Following a scoreless second quarter from both teams, the wolves would provide a much-needed insurance goal in the second half. Keuka forward McKenzie Hoyt would find the back of the net to extend the Wolves lead 2-0. Emily Stallone was credited with the assist.

Keuka was issued a penalty stroke four minutes later where Wolves midfielder Makaela Mills would capitalize on the penalty stroke and score the teams third goal of the match.

The Giants had tons of shots on goal tonight. Unfortunately, they were unable to find the back of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Giants out shot the Wolves 22-15. Miranda Mascia (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) had a team leading seven shots while Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Aregentina/San Vicente de Paul) provided six. Courtney Dwyer (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and Julia Blahut (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) each had two shots. Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had four saves in tonight's match. On the opponent's side, Makeala Mills had a team leading five shots which one of them resulted in a goal. Megan Makowski provided 15 saves for Keuka. Keuka edged Keystone on corners, 8-7.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Giants would look to bounce back following their season opening defeat. The team will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 5 when they host Elmira College at 4 pm.
