La PLUME, Pa. – Keystone men's basketball battled back and forth but ultimately fell short to Cairn, 67-63, Sunday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference play at the Gambal Athletic Center.
In an even matchup with 11 ties and 13 lead changes, Keystone had a final opportunity down by two points with under 10 seconds to go. Coming out a timeout, Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western High) launched a 3-pointer that fell just short as Cairn's Richard Rosas hit both of his free throws on the ensuing foul to put the game away.
Keystone fell to 4-5 in the CSAC (6-12 overall) and dropped to No. 5 in the standings — tied with Clarks Summit (4-5 CSAC, 7-13 overall). The Giants hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over CSU due to sweeping the regular season series.
Cairn improved to 5-4 CSAC, 11-9 overall and is now in sole possession of the fourth spot in the standings.
Outstanding Performers
- Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembrokes Pine Charter) finished with a double-double on 16 rebounds and 22 points — his fourth consecutive game with double-digit scoring.
- Matt Campbell (Queens, N.Y./Pocono Mountain West) set a season-high of 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench. The freshman went 5 of 7 from the field with three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
- Jesse Rivera totaled a team-high 18 points and eight assists for Cairn.
- Matt Lucas followed with 12 points for the Highlanders on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

- Both teams combined to shoot 0 for 10 through the opening three minutes of the game.
- With the game tied, 49-49, at the 7:35 mark of the second half, Cairn took its largest lead by splashing four 3-pointers. Keystone clawed its way back with an 8-2 run to make it a two-point game with under 30 seconds remaining.
- Keystone made just three 3-pointers (3 of 17; 17.6 percent) while Cairn went 10 of 30 (33.3 percent).
- The Giants also made it to the free-throw line 26 times, hitting 20 of them (76.9 percent). The Highlanders shot 7 of 9 (77.8 percent) from the charity stripe.

- Keystone will travel to Phoenixville, Pa. to play Valley Forge (2-8 CSAC, 5-11 overall) for an 8 p.m. tip-off Wednesday night.
