ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Keystone College women's volleyball team survived a five-set thriller on Tuesday night at Rosemont College, defeating the host Ravens 3-2 in CSAC action.
With the key league victory, Keystone improves to 10-12 (5-2 CSAC) while Rosemont drops to 7-12 (4-3 CSAC).
Currently in the CSAC standings, Keystone is tied with Cairn for third place while Rosemont is at fifth. The Giants host St. Elizabeth (5-16, 2-5 CSAC) tomorrow at 7 p.m. and Wilson (4-19, 4-4 CSAC) on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Giants captured the opening set, 25-21, before Rosemont won the second, 25-19. After a 25-20 win by Keystone, the Ravens tied it at 2-2 with a 25-17 victory. In the final fifth set, the Giants enjoyed leads of 11-8 and 14-10 but Rosemont wouldn't go away quietly.
Rosemont claimed a 15-14 lead but a kill from Rebecca Jackson (Quakertown, Pa./Salem Christian School) and two bad sets by the Ravens handed KC the win. Jackson finished with 10 kills.
Adrianna Derrick (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City) floored a team-high 16 kills and chipped in five digs and two solo blocks. Sage Superko (Laceyville, Pa./Wyalusing Valley) notched seven kills and seven digs while Elise Burk (Paw Paw, Mich./Paw Paw) tallied three kills, 11 assists, 19 digs and two aces.
Devany Obin (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) enjoyed 20 assists, three aces and five digs while Karielys Gonzalez Ramirez (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon), Hailey Herneisey (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area), and Kaylee Sargent (Tioga, Pa./Williamson) combined for 35 digs.
For Rosemont, Evora Kaiwi and Madeline McCarthy combined for 31 kills. Isabella Reilly dished out 39 assists.
This was the first five-set win for the Keystone on the season, as the Giants were 0-2 going into Tuesday's match.
