LANGHORNE, Pa.- The Keystone College women's soccer team suffered a 4-3 defeat to Cairn University Wednesday afternoon at the Stillman Athletic Complex. With the loss, Keystone falls to 5-7-2 (2-4-2 CSAC). Cairn improves to 10-6-1 (5-3 CSAC).
Keystone jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Brooke Freni (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional) found the back of the net in the 9th minute. Natalie Cross (Hop Bottom, Pa./Mountain View) had the assist. Three minutes later, Amy Franklin (Lincoln, England/Priory Academy LSST) and Cross found Hailey Dunham (Southgate, Mich./Inter-City Baptist) to put the Giants up two. Cairn was later able to tie the match before half as Becca Marzinke scored in the 24th minute. Then, Marzinke assisted Em Kuansongtham in the 29th minute to tie the match.
In the second half, Keystone took the lead as Cross found Brooke Freni (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional) for her second goal of the contest. Victoria Ruitto scored the equalizer (78th minute) and the golden goal (79th minute) to give the Highlanders the win. Her goals came approximately a minute apart. Keystone goalkeeper Cassandra McHenry (Shickshinny, Pa./Benton Area) made three saves.
Cairn barely outshot Keystone 20-18, and had a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks. Cross led Keystone with six shots. Dunham posted five shots while Chloe Hoffman (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) tallied four.
Keystone will conclude the 2022 regular season on the road as they head to Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. Cairn will head to Clarks Summit University for their regular season finale on the 29th at 1 p.m.
