GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Keystone College women's lacrosse team dropped a season-opening 19-6 defeat at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon to begin the 2022 campaign.
Krista Strausser (Danville, Pa./Danville) led the attack with three goals while Alex Williams (Elkton, Md./The Tome School), Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul), and Riley Hayes (Alexandria, Va./Edison) all chipped in with one score apiece.
The Giants (0-1) will prepare to host Lancaster Bible College (1-0) in their home opener on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m. GMU improves to 3-1 on the year and will host Wilkes University (0-3) on Wednesday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
Williams finished with three assists on the day while Meaghan Drennan (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Tomada chipped in one helper each.
Hannah Osbahr (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) was charged with the loss despite making 14 stops in the cage to go along with five ground balls and one caused turnover. Samantha Hamlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Johnson City Central) led the defensive unit with two caused turnovers.
For GMU, Laura Pelczar enjoyed a seven-point outing with four goals and three assists. Kristin Varilla, Seydel Acuna, and Damali Teagle all finished with hat tricks.
KC trailed 9-2 after the first and 14-4 at intermission. GMU outscored the Giants 5-2 in the second half.
