Women's Lax Drops Tight Contest at Wells 9-5

The Giants outshot the Express 27-20.

AURORA, N.Y. - Krista Strausser (Danville, Pa./Danville) netted a hat trick for the Keystone College women's lacrosse team on Tuesday but the Giants fell at Wells College 9-5 in non-conference action.

With the defeat, Keystone drops to 0-6 and will head to non-conference Marywood University (3-4) on Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m. The Express improves to 2-5 and will travel to Mount Aloysius College (2-4) on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m for a United East Conference contest.

Strausser led the attack with three goals on eight shots (5 on target), to go along with three ground balls and three draw controls. Strausser leads the Giants with 16 scores this season, which ranks third-most in the CSAC. The senior currently has 42 career goals and 45 career points.

Miranda Mascia (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) tallied one goal with five grounds balls and a game-high nine draw controls while Riley Hayes (Alexandria, Va./Edison) chipped in one score, one assist, and two ground balls while Annie Metzger (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) dished out an assist.

Hayes, Metzger, and Samantha Hamlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Johnson City Central) all picked up two ground balls each. Hannah Osbahr (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) suffered the defeat in net, making one stop.

For Wells, Clara Lima scored six times on seven shots while Mackenzie Powers provided one goal and two helpers. The Express held a 33-20 ground ball advantage on the day.

Wells claimed a 2-1 lead after the first quarter and led 4-2 at the break. The Giants got within two, 5-3, after a Strausser goal in the third, but the Express outscored Keystone 5-3 in the second half.

Despite the loss, Keystone outshot Wells 27-20, won 13 of 18 draw controls, and forced 10 turnovers. The Giants went 15 of 18 on clear attempts.
