Softball Suffers Setback at St. Elizabeth

The Giants fell in game one, 3-2.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Keystone College softball team dropped a 3-2 decision at St. Elizabeth University in game one on Monday afternoon in CSAC action.

Game two was halted in the top of the eighth inning with the score tied at 4-4, due to inclement weather and poor playing conditions. No makeup date has been announced yet.

With the loss, the Giants are now 12-10 (6-2 CSAC) and will travel to Wilson College (12-9-1, 4-2 CSAC) on Thursday, April 21 at 3 p.m. The Eagles improve to 11-6 (8-3 CSAC) and will host the College of Mount Saint Vincent (3-17) in non-conference action on Thursday.

Keystone and St. Elizabeth both sit atop the league standings currently, with .750 and .727 conference winning percentages, respectively.

Game One: SEU 3, Keystone 2

Keystone trailed 2-0 after the first but battled back to tie the contest at 2-2 in the third. The Eagles enjoyed a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

The Giants outhit the Eagles 7-5 as leadoff hitter Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) collected two hits, including a triple in the third, later scoring on an RBI double by Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area).

Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North), Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), Jordan Frye (Cheltenham, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic), and Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) all tallied base knocks.

Cienki suffered the loss in the circle as the righty tossed 6.2 innings and allowed no earned runs, striking out a career-high 12 batters with four flyouts and four groundouts.
