Giants' Late Comeback Attempt Clamped By Cougars

Keystone rallied late but ultimately fell to Misericordia, 12-7

DALLAS, Pa. – Keystone baseball team rallied late but Misericordia clamped down to take the win, 12-7, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play at Tambur Field to split the season series.

The Giants jumped on the scoreboard early with a Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) RBI-single in the opening frame, but the Cougars responded with four hits for five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Misericordia took a 10-1 lead into the seventh inning when Keystone rocked relief pitcher Justin Calvarese for four hits to plate three runs.

Matthew Lanzendorfer came out the Cougars bullpen to shut down the Giants' threat but not before an Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) bases-clearing double made it a 10-7 ballgame.

The Cougars re-extended their lead in the eighth inning for the eventual final score of 12-7 and the win as they improved to 24-13 overall on the season.

Keystone fell to 16-15 overall.
