La PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone College baseball team enjoyed a 19-2 non-conference victory over visiting Moravian University on Thursday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.
With the win, the Giants improve to 17-15 overall (8-2 CSAC) and will head to St. Elizabeth University (14-18, 7-3 CSAC) on Saturday, April 30 for the final CSAC doubleheader of the regular season, starting at 12 p.m. The Greyhounds drop to 20-16 and head to Elizabethtown College (18-18) for a Landmark series from April 30-May 1.
Trailing 1-0, Keystone erupted for an 11-run fourth inning, as RJ Gouldsbury (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) homered twice and collected five RBI in the frame. Gouldsbury ripped a three-run shot to left followed by a two-run blast later in the inning. The senior leads Keystone and the CSAC with 10 homers this season.
Moravian hit four straight Keystone batters following the Gouldsbury homer. Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella) came through with a run-scoring sac fly to center before JD Barrett (Moosic, Pa./Dallas) enjoyed a three-run homer down the right-field line to push the KC lead to 8-1.
In the sixth, Pedro Abreu (Bronx, N.Y./Santa Teresa) tallied a two-run single before Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) came through with a bases-clearing double to extend the lead to 16-2. Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) tallied a run-scoring single in the seventh while Evan Fallwell (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino) and Devin Reed (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) picked up RBIs in the eighth to complete the scoring.
Gouldsbury finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI while Barrett went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) enjoyed a 2-for-4 day with three runs while Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) scored three times.
Logan Lixie (Tamarac, Fla./J.P. Taravella) earned the start and his second win of the spring, tossing 5.2 innings with three strikeouts, seven flyouts, and seven groundouts on 91 pitches. Kevin Murphy (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) came in for a long relief appearance and earned his first save of the year, logging 3.1 frames with two strikeouts, seven flyouts, and one groundout on 49 pitches.
