La PLUME, Pa. – After nearly two weeks following a pair of halted games, the Keystone softball team fell to Rosemont and Saint Elizabeth Friday afternoon in continuation action of Colonial States Athletic Conference play at Edmunds Field.
The Giants fell to Rosemont, 6-4, after continuing in the bottom of the sixth inning, and lost to Saint Elizabeth, 5-4, after resuming play in the top of the eighth inning.
With the losses, Keystone fell to 12-14 overall, 6-6 CSAC.
Wilson, Rosemont, Cedar Crest and Saint Elizabeth have already locked up four of the five conference postseason berths.
Game 1: Rosemont 6, Keystone 4 (cont. from April 14)
Rosemont took a 3-0 lead through the first 2-1/2 innings before Keystone got on the board in the bottom of the third before adding a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to tie the score at 3-3.
Gillyan Dewbrew slammed a lead-off home run in the top of the sixth to put the Ravens back ahead.
After a groundout to start the bottom frame, Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) was hit by pitch as increasing inclement weather and impending darkness loomed over, prompting the umpires to call a halt to the contest.
In Friday's continuation, Rosemont pitcher Dani Sharpe induced a fielder's choice groundout and got a strikeout to retire the send after a two-week period.
The Ravens quickly loaded the bases but went down on consecutive outs before Emily Bingman singled through the left side to bring in a pair of runs.
Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) and Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) both singled – their third of the game – to start the bottom of the seventh but the Giants went down in order to end the threat and the game.
Rosemont improved to 15-15 overall and 11-3 in the CSAC.
Game 2: Keystone 4, Saint Elizabeth 5 (8 innings; cont. from April 18)
The Giants took an early lead on Paige Mokychic's (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) RBI double in the opening frame.
Saint Elizabeth plated three runs in the bottom of the third, but Keystone tied it up a half-inning later with an Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) triple and a Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) groundout.
Booth's RBI single gave the Giants a lead in the fifth inning, but the Eagles knotted up the score once again on a RBI double.
The game was halted due to darkness following seven complete innings.
In Friday's continuation, it took just a Jessica O'Malley single up the middle to score the winning run in walk-off fashion.
Saint Elizabeth improved to 10-4 in the CSAC.
