Softball Celebrates Senior Day With Sweep of CSU

The Giants won 13-5 and 8-2.

La PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone College softball team enjoyed a Senior Day sweep of visiting Clarks Summit University on Sunday afternoon at Edmunds Field.

The Giants (14-16, 8-8 CSAC) took game one, 13-5 in six innings, before winning game two, 8-2. Keystone punched their ticket into the upcoming CSAC playoffs as the No. 5 seed and will play at No. 4 seed St. Elizabeth University (14-10, 10-6 CSAC) on Wednesday, May 4 with time to be announced. The Defenders end the year at 4-23 (2-14).

Prior to the contests, the team honored its four seniors for their dedication to the program: Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy), Baylie Reed (Olyphant, Pa./Valley View), Hannah Dickson (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett), and Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area).

Game One: Keystone 13, Clarks Summit 5 (6 innings)

The Giants enjoyed 17 hits as Johnson finished 5-for-5 with five runs and three RBI and Mokychic went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a three-run bomb to dead center field in the first.

Keystone tallied four runs in the first, three in the third, and fourth and finished the game in the sixth inning with a Mokychic run-scoring triple followed by a Jordan Frye (Cheltenham, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) sacrifice fly. Frye finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) tallied two hits while Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) scored twice and tallied two base knocks.

Dickson earned the win in the circle, tossing all six frames with six strikeouts, eight groundouts, and three flyouts, needing 80 pitches.

Game Two: Keystone 8, Clarks Summit 2

Keystone tallied 14 hits as Mokychic went 4-for-4 with five RBI, finishing the doubleheader 7-for-8 with 10 RBI against the Defenders. Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 2-for-4 and Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) went 2-for-3.

Cienki went the distance with 12 strikeouts and six groundouts, tossing 95 pitches. This was her third double-digit strikeout contest of the season (4/11 vs. UVF and 4/16 vs. St. Elizabeth).
