Field Hockey Suffers Home Opener Defeat to RPI

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College field hockey team suffered their first loss of the season to RPI 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon at the Keystone College Turf Field in their home opener. The Giants drop to 2-1 while RPI improves to 3-2.

Following a scoreless first half, sophomore Julianna Santiago (Allentown, Pa./Louis E. Dieruff) scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the third quarter. The Engineers would tie in the fourth quarter as Lauren McCarthy found Dani Samuelson for the equalizer. The score remained 1-1 after the end of regulation.

In the overtime period, Brianna Duba scored the overtime game winning goal to give RPI the win. Junior goalkeeper Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had four saves in the defeat.

Overall, RPI had a 10-6 advantage on shots. The Engineers had six shots on goal while Keystone posted three shots on goal. They also had the advantage on penalty corners, 6-5.

Field hockey will remain home for their next game as they face off against SUNY Oswego on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
