La PLUME, Pa. - Makayla Batts (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) caged the game-winning goal only 57 seconds into overtime to lift the Keystone College field hockey team over visiting Sweet Briar 2-1 in the CSAC opener for both squads on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Giants improve to 4-4 (1-0 CSAC) while the Vixens fall to 2-5 (0-1 CSAC). Keystone travels to Cedar Crest (1-5) on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
Following a penalty corner, Batts took a feed from Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul) for the game-winning finish. Batts totaled a game-high five shots on the day.
Jordan Vandermark (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) gave the Giants a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on an unassisted score. Sweet Briar's Jolin Daughety tied the match up at 1-1 in the 37th minute.
Overall, Keystone outshot SBC 16-12 and held a 6-1 penalty corner advantage.
Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) earned the victory, making three stops. Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) made two defensive saves.
