Field Hockey Runs Past Cedar Crest 5-1

Tomada + Vandermark combined for four goals.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Keystone College field hockey team stormed out of the gates and didn't look back in Wednesday's CSAC contest at Cedar Crest College, defeating the Falcons 5-1.

With the win, the Giants improve to 5-4 (2-0 CSAC) and will host Gwynedd Mercy University (3-5) for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. The Falcons drop to 2-6 (0-1 CSAC) and will host Notre Dame of Maryland (0-4) on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

Leading the way offensively was Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul) and Jordan Vandermark (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), who combined for four goals. Tomada finished with two scores and one assist while Vandermark provided two tallies on two shots off the bench.

Cortney Keim (Trevorton, Pa./Line Mountain) enjoyed her first career goal as Keystone notched 10 shots on the night, with seven on target.

Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) made five stops in the cage, facing six shots on target.

Keystone jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 12 minutes into the match, thanks to a Vandermark goal. Tomada followed with a penalty stroke tally in the 21st minute and Keim found the back of the cage in the 26th minute as the Giants claimed a 3-0 cushion at intermission.

Vandermark recorded her second score in the 37th minute and Tomada put the icing on the cake in the 45th minute. 

Cedar Crest ruined the shutout bid with a score in the 58th minute by Adriana Hinkle.
