WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- The Keystone College men's basketball team opened the 2023-24 season with an 86-61 loss to Wilkes University in the team's season opener Thursday evening.
Keystone drops to 0-1 to start the year as Wilkes goes to 1-0.
Kamdyn Ayers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Western) led Keystone with 14 points and five rebounds. Ayers shot 75 percent from the field. Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western) contributed 10 points and three rebounds. Brandon Scott (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) and D'Andre Sutherland (Miramar, Fla./West Broward) combined for 18 points and eight rebounds.
Three Wilkes players finished in double figures as Lucas Lesko finished with a double-double as he scored 21 points with 11 rebounds. Trent Fisher had 17 points and six rebounds. Cayden Merrifield notched 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds.
The Colonels had a monster first half as they outscored the Giants, 49-27. Keystone fought back in the second half which included an 11-0 run to begin the half. However, the Colonels made significant adjustments and cruised to the season opening win. Wilkes shot 48 percent from the field and posted a 46-31 margin on rebounds.
Keystone will remain on the road as they travel to Binghamton, N.Y. for a battle with Division I Binghamton University on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 6:07 p.m. Game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
