Softball Swept at Wilkes on Wednesday

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. - The Keystone College softball team dropped a midweek doubleheader at Wilkes University on Wednesday, falling to the Colonels 2-1 and 7-2, in non-conference action.

The Giants (1-7) are slated to host Lycoming College in the team's home opener on Sunday, March 26. Wilkes improves to 8-4.

Game One: Wilkes 2, Keystone 1

The Giants threatened to tie the game late with two outs but fell just short in the opener, despite outhitting the Colonels, 7-5.

Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI single in the second. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) went 2-for-3 while Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown), and Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) provided hits.

Cienki tossed six innings with five strikeouts, scattering five hits. The junior allowed just one earned run and forced eight flyouts with four groundouts, throwing 105 pitches.

Game Two: Wilkes 7, Keystone 2

The Colonels outhit the Giants 12-5 and scored four runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Olivero tallied two hits, including a double. Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) came through with a run-scoring bunt in the fifth, scoring Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore). 

Kabrina Birmingham (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) provided one hit and one run.

Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) struck out four in six innings, forcing eight flyouts and three groundouts, tossing 127 pitches.
