LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Keystone College softball team earned a split in Thursday's doubleheader at Cairn University, winning the opener 3-2 before falling in game two 3-2 to the Highlanders.
The Giants are now 5-13 (4-4 CSAC) and will return home to host Wilson College on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. Cairn moves to 8-12 (3-3 CSAC).
Game One: Keystone 3, Cairn 2
The Giants scored all their runs in the top of the first and held on for the game one victory, outhitting Cairn 11-5.
Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown), and Kabrina Birmingham (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) all had first-inning RBI. Olivero finished 3-for-4 while Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) provided two base knocks.
Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) earned her third win of the spring, tossing all seven innings with seven strikeouts, eight flyouts and six groundouts on 97 pitches.
Game Two: Cairn 3, Keystone 2
Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Highlanders rallied to hand Keystone the walk-off defeat.
Olivero tallied an RBI sac fly in the third while Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) provided an RBI groundout in the fourth.
Booth finished 2-for-3 with Benitez, Staple, Birmingham and Brooks chipping in base hits.
Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) started and pitched six frames, striking out four with nine flyouts and five groundouts on 82 pitches. Cienki suffered the defeat, striking out one.
