Giants Conclude Myrtle Beach Trip with Win Over Manchester

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Keystone College baseball team grabbed their first win of the season as they defeated Manchester University 13 -12 Saturday afternoon in the team's final game of the Myrtle Beach trip.

Keystone moves to 1-3 while Manchester falls to 1-2.

Jacob Yager (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) continued his hot streak as he went 4-for-5 with two RBI. He recorded his second home run of the season and an RBI single. Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) went 3-for-5 with four RBI which was highlighted by a grand slam. Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central) recorded three hits with two RBI. Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) also had three hits in the game. Nicholas Franza (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Northeast) tallied two hits which included a solo home run.

Sean Brennan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) got the start on the mound and pitched well as he went five innings with six hits, no runs, and eight strikeouts. Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney), Matthew McElligott (Columbus, OH/Bishop Hartley), Cam Hale (Covington, Wash./Kentridge), and Slothing Che (Santo Domingo, D.R./Instituto Tecnologico Fabio Amable Mota) appeared in relief. Che picked up the victory as he went two innings without allowing a hit or run and struck out three batters.

Keystone got off to a hot start as they scored eight runs through the first five innings. The Spartans answered back in a huge way as they combined for 12 runs through the sixth and seventh innings to take a 12-8 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Giants tied the game up with a grand slam by Hagan. Che appeared in relief in the eighth and was able to record a 1,2,3 inning. Boyle would be the hero as he had the go-ahead RBI single to center in the bottom of the eighth to give Keystone their first victory.

Keystone will now gear up for their Spring break trip in Florida which begins next Saturday, Mar. 9 when they take on Utica University at 12:30 P.M. in the annual RussMatt Invitational.
