Softball Drops Doubleheader to Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team were swept Friday afternoon by Penn State Harrisburg 5-2 and 5-4.

Keystone falls to 2-8 while Penn State Harrisburg jumps to 9-3.

Game One: Penn State Harrisburg 5, Keystone 2

Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 2-for-3 on the day. She was the only Giants to record at least two base hits in the first game. Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Karina Jennings (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) contributed with an RBI.

Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the start in game one and went the entire six innings, allowing hits, five runs (three earned), and seven strikeouts.

The Nittany Lions took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and held that margin until the fifth inning where Keystone was able to cut the lead in half with Jenning's RBI SAC bunt. The Giants would later tie the game in the next inning thanks to Benitez's RBI double down the right field line.

In the bottom of the sixth, Harrisburg answered back with an RBI single and a two- RBI double to retake the lead. They would be able to shutout the Giants in the seventh inning and take the first game of the doubleheader.

Game Two: Penn State Harrisburg 5, Keystone 4

 Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Olivero had an RBI triple while Jennings had an RBI single. Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) recorded an RBI as well.

Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was the starting pitcher in game two where she struck out two batters.

Keystone took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seven where the Nittany Lions would walk it off with a bases clearing double by Olivia Hercane.

What's Next

Keystone will prepare its home and conference opener with Cedar Crest College on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 1 p.m. As a reminder, the Giants softball team will be playing its home games this season at Hillside Park (1188 Winola Road, South Abington Township, Pa. 18411).
