Softball Sweeps Cedar Crest in Home Opener

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team picked up two wins against Cedar Crest College on Saturday afternoon 5-0 and 6-3 in the team's home opener.

Keystone improves to 4-8 (2-0 United East Skye Division) on the season while Cedar Crest falls to 0-10 (0-2 United East Skye Division).

Game One: Keystone 5, Cedar Crest 0

Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) and Hanaje Riley (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) both went 2-for-3 on the day with each recording an RBI. Riley crushed a solo home run, the first of her career.  Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) also went 2-for-3. Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) notched a two-run homerun while Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) recorded an RBI single.

Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the start game one and pitched seven shutout innings which included fourteen strikeouts, and only two hits and walks allowed a piece. Her 14 strikeouts tied a school record for most strikeouts in a game.

Keystone quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they would add three more runs in the fourth inning to secure the win in game one.

Game Two: Keystone 6, Cedar Crest 3

Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) RBI single. Riley walked in a run and recorded an RBI single. Olivero and Morley each added in a run as well.

Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) started game two and recorded strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Cienki pitched the remainder of the contest and threw five strikeouts with no runs allowed.

Keystone got off to another 2-0 start before Cedar Crest would respond in the third inning with three unanswered to take their first lead of the afternoon. In the sixth inning, Keystone recaptured the lead and pulled away with a four-run inning.

What's Next

Keystone will remain at home when they take on Rosemont College in a doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 4 starting at 3 p.m.
