Softball Takes Two From Patriots

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team grabbed their second conference doubleheader sweep as they defeated the University of Valley Forge 15-1 in five innings in the first game followed by a 10-2 win in game two Monday evening.

Keystone is now 6-8 with a 4-0 mark in conference play. Valley Forge falls to 6-8 and are 0-2 in the United East Conference.

Game One: Keystone 15, Valley Forge 1 (5 inn.)

Karina Jennings (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) went 2-for-3 as she had two RBI doubles. Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 2-for-3 with two RBI singles. Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) also recorded two hits with two runs batted in. Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) joined the two hit party as she contributed with an RBI single.

Hanaje Riley (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) tallied a two-RBI single while Kabrina Birmingham (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) added a two-RBI double. Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the win in the circle as she pitched five innings and only gave up three hits, one earned run, and fanned nine Patriots.

The Giants got off to a hot start in the opening game as they scored a combined 12 runs in the first two innings. They were held scoreless in the third and fourth inning, but eventually tacked on three more in the fifth to close out game one.

Game Two: Keystone 10, Valley Forge 2

Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 3-for-5 with one RBI. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) also recorded three hits. Schultz and Benitez both had two hits with two RBI. Christina Carreon (Clifton, Va./Centreville) and Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) combined for four hits and two RBI.

Grace Lorah (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was the game two starter and pitched the first inning where she allowed two runs with one strikeout. Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was credited with the win in the circle as she pitched the rest of the second game in relief as she gave up three hits, no runs, and struck out five batters.

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Giants would then score 10 unanswered runs to complete the comeback and secure another conference sweep.

What's Next

The Giants resume United East Skye Division play on Wednesday, Apr. 10 as they head to Saint Elizabeth University at 2 p.m.
