Softball Earns Nonconference Split at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Keystone College softball recorded a doubleheader split at Marywood University Thursday afternoon. Keystone dropped game one but won the second game 7-6.

Keystone moves to 12-14 and Marywood goes to 19-11.

Game One: Marywood 6, Keystone 1

The Keystone bats went cold in the opening game as the Giants rattled off only four hits. Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the starting nod in game one and went six innings with six strikeouts. The senior pitcher allowed five earned runs off nine hits.

Game Two: Keystone 7, Marywood 6

The bats came alive for Keystone in game two as Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) and Karina Jennings (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) both recorded three hits. Jennings had two RBI in the contest. Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area), Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), and Christina Carreon (Clifton, Va./Centreville) all contributed with an RBI.

Cienki was the starting pitcher in game two and went two innings with one strikeout. Grace Lorah (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) and recorded a strikeout in one inning in relief. Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was the winning pitcher as she threw four innings and allowed one earned run with one strikeout.

Trailing 6-3 after the fourth inning, Keystone scored four runs in the top of the sixth to complete the comeback. The game two victory marks the first win for the softball program over Marywood since April 2013.

What's Next

The Giants head to Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday, Apr. 27 for the team's final conference game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
