BALTIMORE, Md.- The Keystone College softball dropped their final conference doubleheader of the season to Notre Dame of Maryland University by finals scores of 7-6 and 11-7 Saturday afternoon.
Keystone concludes the regular season at 12-16 (9-7 United East Skye Division) while Notre Dame of Maryland improves to 19-14 (11-5 United East Skye Division).
Game One: Notre Dame (MD) 7, Keystone 6 (8 inn.)
Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 3-for-4 at the plate and contributed with all six RBI from the first game. Kabrina Birmingham (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) and Elle Olivero (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) also had three hits in the contest. Hanaje Riley (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) went 2-for-4.
Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got the start and suffered the defeat in game one as she pitched 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts.
The Giants held a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh where the Gators would tie the game with an RBI single which forced the first game to go into extra innings. Notre Dame eventually walked it off in the eighth with an RBI single through the left side.
Game Two: Notre Dame (MD) 11, Keystone 7
Olivero recorded four hits with four RBI. Karina Jennings (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) added two hits in the second game. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area), Christina Carreon (Clifton, Va./Centreville), and Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) contributed with an RBI.
Clare Johns (Skippack, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) pitched in game two and went six innings with one strikeout.
The Giants scored seven runs through the first two innings until the Gators scored 11 unanswered runs to complete the doubleheader sweep.
What's Next
Keystone clinched the four seed in the United East Skye Division Tournament and will faceoff with Clarks Summit University on Wednesday, May 1 in the Skye Division Play In Game.
