Keystone Football Week One Preview: Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa.- The Keystone College football team kicks off the 2024 season this Saturday, Sept. 7 against Misericordia University at 12 p.m.

The Keystone Giants wrapped up its first season in the Landmark Conference as they finished 2023 with a 2-8 overall record (1-5 Landmark).

Keystone brings back a solid group of returners and welcome a talented 2024 recruiting class to the program.

On the offensive side, senior wide receiver Jayson Nami (Freehold Township, N.J./Freehold Township) came off a big year las he finished 24th in all of Division III in all-purpose yards a year ago. He recorded 521 receiving yards with four touchdowns and had 811 yards on kickoff returns. Tight end Reese Karp (Pen Argyl, Pa./Pen Argyl) is coming off his second consecutive all-conference selection as he tallied 105 receiving yards and one score. Donald Leach III (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) is back for his second year as the starting quarterback as he concluded the 2023 campaign with 884 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Giants return two all-conference performers in linebacker Quinten Tibbs and defensive lineman Tyler Malanga (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.). Tibbs led the Keystone defense with 63 total tackles. In addition, Dontez Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Pennsauken) is back for his fifth year as the graduate student cornerback led the team in interceptions and pass break ups.

Misericordia

The Misericordia University Cougars wrapped up 2023 with a record of 4-6 (4-5 MAC).

The Cougars have a trio of players that received all-conference honors last season. Lamontae Wilson received first team as he recorded six interceptions and broke up eight passes. Wide receiver Owen McGuffey led the Misericordia receiving core with 418 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Punter Chris Moyer averaged close to 37 yards a punt with his longest going for 59 yards.

Misericordia last played Keystone on September 10, 2022 where the Cougars came away with a 38-20 victory.

What's Next

Keystone will host Hartwick College in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
