HAZELTON, Pa.- The Keystone College women's volleyball suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season as they lost on the road to Penn State Hazleton 3-1 Thursday evening.
Keystone dropped the first set 25-19 but bounced back to take the second set 25-22. They dropped the last two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-23.
The Giants fall to 3-1 while the Nittany Lions move to 2-1.
Adrianna Derrick (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City) led the offensive attack with 12 kills. Sofia Green (Portland, Ore./Mountainside) and Taylor Howard (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) chipped in with six. Elise Burk (Paw Paw, Mich./Paw Paw) and Tobi West (Hoopeston, Ill./Hoopeston Area) combined for 41 assists.
Defensively, Catie Woolf (Fremont, Ohio/Saint Joseph Central Catholic) posted 23 digs while Burk added 15 and Bella Brienza (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) with 12. In addition, Howard led the team in blocks with four.
Penn State Hazelton was led by Sydney Mack who posted 15 kills in the victory. Sophia Del Vacchio contributed with 23 assists and Lindsey Barron added 23 digs.
Keystone will head to Marywood University for a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Giants will face the host Pacers at 11 a.m. followed by Lycoming College at 1 p.m.
