PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.- The Keystone College women's soccer team suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat to the University Valley Forge Wednesday afternoon.
Valley Forge struck first just two minutes into the match when Emily Biser found the back of the net to give the Patriots an early lead. Keystone regrouped and equalized in the half as Victory Frantz (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) scored in the 38th minute.
The Patriots were able to retake the lead before intermission as Danielle Horne added a goal in the 41st minute.
The Giants came out firing in the second half. Frantz netted her second goal of the day in the 51st minute, assisted by Sarah Koster (Dumont, N.J./Dumont), to bring the match level once again. Just five minutes later, Frantz completed her hat trick to put Keystone ahead. The Patriots responded quickly as Horne tallied her second goal less than three minutes later.
The Giants earned their third lead in the 62nd minute as Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) recorded her first goal of the year off an assist from Brooke Freni (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional).
Horne tied it for the Patriots as she compiled a hat trick of her own as she scored her third goal of the match in the 66th minute. The decisive goal came in the 74th minute when Biser (assisted by Leah Yost) connected for her second of the contest.
Keystone finished with a 29-21 edge in total shots and 15-14 advantage in shots on goal. The Giants held a 9-4 advantage on corner kicks. Goalkeeper Malaysia Bryant (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall) made nine saves in the effort.
Keystone (0-11-1, 0-6-0) hosts Notre Dame of Maryland University in their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. The team will hold a pre-game senior day ceremony prior to competition.
