Women’s Soccer Suffers Senior Day Setback to Notre Dame of Maryland

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College women's soccer team dropped their final home match of the season to Notre Dame of Maryland by a final score of 8-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Giants celebrated seniors Malaysia Bryant (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall), Brooke Freni (Glendora, N.J./Triton Regional), and Gianna McNerney (Covington Township, Pa./North Pocono) prior to the contest.

From the opening whistle, Notre Dame (MD) asserted control. At 7:32 in the first half, Karen Morales broke the deadlock with her first goal of the season off an assist from Olivia Messercola. Just two minutes later, Alex Busick found the net (with a set-up from Madyson Costello) to make it 2-0. By the 20-minute mark, the Gators were up 3–0 after Tessa Wiles scored her first of the season.

Keystone's response came at 25:19, when Freni- assisted by Reshma Kaldan (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton)- finally got the home side on the board, cutting the lead to 3–1. It was a bright moment for the Giants, but the momentum shifted quickly back to Notre Dame. At 27:33, Costello scored again to make it 4-1, and just a little over a minute later Leah Acri added another to extend the lead.

The Gators pegged in two more goals as Costello found the back of the net again at 36:20 (assist by Malaika Habib) and Acri again at 42:04 (assist by Messercola) to close out the first half.

Notre Dame added one more goal in the second as Busick provided an unassisted tally in the 55th minute.

The Gators racked up 35 shots with 26 of them being on target, The Giants added three shots (two on goal). Bryant made 18 saves in the effort.

Keystone (0-12-1, 0-7-0 United East) concludes the 2025 campaign Tuesday night at Penn State Berks.
