NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Keystone College football team were defeated on the road by Newport News Apprentice School 45-21 Saturday afternoon.
The Builders scored first with a Baker Green 84-yard punt return touchdown with just a little over a minute into the opening quarter.
The Giants fumbled the ball on their next possession as Daruis Carney forced the ball out and Dylan Goad recovered. Apprentice would capitalize off the turnover as Logan Eastman nailed a 20-yard field goal to put the Builders up by 10.
Keystone finally got on the board as Frankie Leyshon (Lake Ariel, Pa./Western Wayne) found Johann Henningan (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) from 18-yard out. To make it a three-point ball game. The Builder responded after the Giants touchdown with one of their own as Kendall Hunt hit T.K Petty for a touchdown from 68 yards out.
Apprentice's defense provided another big play as Jabari Anderson picked off Leyshon and returned the interception all the way to the end zone.
In the second quarter, Leyshon would throw his second touchdown pass of the game as he connected with Jayson Nami (Freehold Township, N.J./Freehold Township) from five yards out. Keystone would get a turnover of their own as Anthony Rosser (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) picked off Hunt.
Keystone would capitalize on the takeaway as Hennigan hauled in his second touchdown pass of the game.
Ther Builders would add on 21 unanswered points as Jabari Anderson recorded another pick-six at the conclusion of the first half. Hunt and Tyreon Taylor provided rushing touchdowns in the third quarter.
Leyshon completed 17 passes for 208 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Nami led the receiving score with 136 receiving yards.
Defensively, Nicholas DeFrancesco (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco), Mahkai Allen (New Castle, Del./William Penn), and Marcis Williams each had seven total tackles. Jeremiah Ortiz (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) punted five times for 175 yards. He made all three of his extra points.
The Giants will remain on the road as they take on Hartwick College in their final away game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
