LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College Giants women's basketball team suffered a 70-33 defeat at home to the visiting Clarkson University Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the tip-off tournament.
From the opening tip, Clarkson set a relentless pace. They opened the game with two quick scores — a layup by Elizabeth Aiossa and a three-pointer from Addie Kea — before Keystone got on the board. The Golden Knights then rattled off an 11-0 run over four minutes to build a 16-2 lead early in the first quarter. By the end of that opening frame Clarkson was ahead 27-6.
In the second quarter, Keystone struggled to close the gap. After allowing the first five points of the quarter, the Giants finally found some offense via free throws from Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood). Jayda Price (York, Pa./William Penn) added a jumper a minute later to give Keystone double-digit scoring. The Golden Knights answered with an 8-2 spurt and led 40-14 at halftime.
After the break, Keystone showed a bit more fight, especially in the third quarter when they connected on a couple of triples and improved their shooting somewhat. They outscored their own first-quarter output with 14 points in that frame. But the Golden Knights kept the pressure on, adding another 14 in the third to stay firmly in control.
Barnett logged eight points, five rebounds and two steals. Price chipped in with four points and was named to the all-tournament team.
Bella Doyle went 8-9 from the field and finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Fallon Griffin and Addie Kea both added 15 points.
The Giants shot 23.2 percent from the field (13-of-56) and 13.6 percent (3-of-22) from three-point range. They were out-rebounded, 56-24.
Keystone (0-4) wraps up their homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 18 when they take on Rutgers-Newark at 6 p.m.
