NEW YORK CITY, N.Y.- The Keystone College women's basketball team dropped a 58-44 decision to The City College of New York Friday evening, in their first road game of the season.
Tayana Bibbins (Lincoln, Del./Sussex Technical) led Keystone with 14 points, adding two assists and three steals. Aaliyah Pharr (Bronx, N.Y./Earl Monrow New Renaissance) added eight points and three rebounds, and Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood) contributed seven points, six boards, and two blocks. Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) chipped in five points and four assists.
Ashley Colon scored a game high 17 points for the Beavers and grabbed five rebounds. Joseclyn Ramos and Blessings Joseph Powell both had 11.
The Giants hung tough early, using baskets from Barnett and Hailee Hackett (Carmicahel, Calif./Rio Americano) to offset CCNY's perimeter shooting. Keystone trailed just 16–14 after the first quarter and briefly held a four-point lead in the second when Cortazar knocked down a three-pointer and Ayanna Sanders (Bronx, N.Y./Earl Monrow New Renaissance) added a free throw. But CCNY responded with an 8–0 run.
Keystone continued to battle, heading into halftime down only 33–28, and Pharr scored early in the third to bring the Giants within five. However, the Beavers controlled the glass throughout the night, outrebounding Keystone 61–43, including 30 offensive rebounds that repeatedly extended possessions.
The fourth quarter was a challenge for the Giants as the offense went quiet. Keystone managed only six points while shooting 1-for-19 from the field.
The team posted a 28.1 (16-of-57) field goal percentage in the contest while shooting 10 percent (2-of-20) from the three-point line.
Keystone (0-6) heads to Cedar Crest College on Monday.
