Women’s Basketball Falls to King’s at Home

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College women's basketball team returned to the court following Thanksgiving break hosting King's College (Pa.). Unfortunately, the Giants suffered a 65-41 defeat to the Monarchs on Sunday.

King's (4–2) controlled the interior from the opening tip, using its size and rebounding presence to build early momentum and never relinquish it. The Monarchs out-rebounded Keystone 50–34, dominated the paint 32–12, and turned 24 Keystone turnovers into 29 points.

Keystone (0–8) hung tough through the first quarter, trailing just 20–15 after a late three by Jayda Price (York, Pa./William Penn). The Monarchs, however, tightened defensively in the second period, limiting the Giants to only seven points and stretching the lead to 31–22 by halftime.

Hailee Hackett (Carmicahel, Calif./Rio Americano) continued her steady play for the Giants, leading the team with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists while knocking down a pair of threes. Price added seven points and six rebounds, and Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) chipped in six points and three boards. Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood) helped on the glass with eight rebounds.

Cadie Lewis powered the visitors with a game-high 20 points, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Claire Aufiero and Lauren Casey both posted double-doubles—Aufiero with 12 points and 13 rebounds, Casey with 12 points and 11 boards.

Every Keystone push in the second half was met by timely King's scoring. The Monarchs opened the third quarter on a 12–2 run, extending their lead beyond 15, and held the Giants to just nine points in the final frame to close out the win.

Keystone shot 28.1 percent from the field and 3-for-7 from the foul line, while King's finished at 35.5 percent and converted 16 free throws.

The Giants head to Cairn University for their United East Conference opener on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.
