ELMIRA, N.Y- The Keystone Collee women's basketball team battled hard on the road Tuesday afternoon at Elmira College but ultimately fell 73-48.
Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood) led the Giants with 10 points and three steals, while Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) added nine points and seven rebounds. Daphney Cadichon (Long Island, N.Y./Canarsie) scored seven points off the bench. Keystone finished the game with a 31.5 percent field-goal mark and hitting just 6-of-26 from beyond the arc.
Elmira's attack was paced by Amarionah Dixon, who scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and Emma Ryan chipped in 15 to help keep the Soaring Eagles comfortably in front. They shot 42.2 percent from the field and maintained its advantage through all four quarters.
Elmira took control early, building an 18-9 advantage after the first quarter and never relinquishing the lead. The Soaring Eagles continued to extend their margin through the half and went into intermission ahead 36-22.
Defensively, the Giants fought hard but allowed the Soaring Eagles to pull away in the third quarter, as the home squad outscored Keystone 20-10. Elmira continued that momentum in the fourth, closing out the home victory.
Keystone (2-10) will host Alfred State College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
