Baseball Splits to Open Spring Break Trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The Keystone College baseball team opened the RussMatt Baseball Invitational with a 6-2 win over St. John Fisher followed by a 9-1 defeat to Wisconsin-Oshkosh to kick off their annual spring break trip.

Sean Brennan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) improved to 2-0 on the mound as he tossed a gem with six scoreless innings pitched and 13 strikeouts. He gave up three hits in his outing. Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) pitched the next two innings and struck out four batters. Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) came in the ninth and punched out two batters. Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) posted two hits to lead the Giants offense.

The first three innings of the game were scoreless until the top of the fourth when Keystone brought home four runs with an RBI double by Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/James J. Ferris) and a three-run home run by Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology).

They added two runs in the seventh to make it a six-run game. The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back RBI singles, but the Giants were able to record the final out to end the game.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh 9, Keystone 1

Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) got the start in the second contest and went four innings with four strikeouts. The senior right-hander gave up five runs (three earned) off 10 hits. Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) tossed the rest of the game in relief and recorded a strikeout.

The Titans scored four through the first four innings which was highlighted by a three-run first innings. They would score one run in the fourth followed by two runs in the seventh and eighth innings in route to the victory.

The Giants lone run came in the bottom of the eighth as Rivas provided an RBI sac fly.

What's Next

Keystone (3-1) faces Moravian University in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
