LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team secured another United East Conference doubleheader sweep as they defeated Lancaster Bible College 13-3 and 7-0 Monday afternoon.
Game One: Lancaster Bible 3, Keystone 13 (7 inn.)
An eight-run second inning helped propel the Giants to a mercy-run rule win. Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) also had three hits which included a solo home run. Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) drove in two runs.
Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) moved to 4-0 on the mound as he went five innings and allowed two earned runs off seven hits. The sophomore struck out eight. Matthew Cuzco (Chicago, Ill./Saint Ignatius College Prep) pitched the last two innings and recorded two strikeouts.
Game Two: Lancaster Bible 0, Keystone 7
The first two innings were scoreless until the Giants put up a five-spot in the bottom of the third. They added two insurance runs in the eighth off RBI base knocks.
Donovan Rhoden (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) went 2-for-3 with three RBI as he had a two-RBI single followed by a RBI single. Emilio Portes (Rio Grande City, Tex./Monsignor Pace) also had two hits which featured an RBI single.
Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) was the game two starter and went five innings with four strikeouts. He earned his second win of the season. Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Noah Parks (Maple Valley, Wash./Tahoma), Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), and Brandon Valles (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) pitched an inning in relief. Byler struck out three while Parks and Valles both added a punchout.
