Baseball Takes Two from Wilson on Senior Day

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team took down United East foe Wilson College 15-5 and 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.

The team honored its seniors prior to the start of the second game.

Game One: Wilson 5, Keystone 15 (7 inn.)

Wilson exploded for four runs in the first inning. Keystone added a run in the bottom half to cut their deficit to three.

The Giants' offense came alive as they scored five runs in the second followed by three in the third and fourth. After a scoreless fifth inning, they added two runs in the sixth off a balk and wild pitch.

The Phoenix scored one run in the seventh off an RBI groundout to make it, 15-4. Keystone would end in the bottom of the seventh as Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) brought a runner home with a single to left and give the Giants the 10-run rule win.

Greg Verano (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) posted a game high four runs batted in off two hits. Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) had two RBI as well.

Quinn Holt (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) picked up his third win of the season as he went the distance with six strikeouts. He gave up five earned runs off eight hits.

Game Two: Wilson 0, Keystone 2 (7 inn.- Weather)

Yastresmki was responsible for the two runs for Keystone as he recorded an RBI double in the first and a SAC fly in the third. The game would be called in the seventh due to the weather.

Yastresmki and Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) were the lone players with a multi-hit game as the two combined for five hits this afternoon.

Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) started the second game and gave up no runs off eight hits with a strikeout in 6.1 innings of work. Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) pitched the rest of the seventh and got a groundout and fly out.

Keystone (23-8, 12-1 United East) hosts Susquehanna University on Monday, Apr. 21 at 4 p.m.
