READING, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team concluded their conference schedule with a sweep of Penn State Berks as they took down the Nittany Lions 11-3 and 28-9 Friday afternoon.
Game One: Keystone 11, Penn State Berks 3
Keystone scored the first of the game in the second inning off a passed ball. They would add three runs in innings three through five to take a 10-run lead.
The Giants scored one more run in the seventh inning off a hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Penn State berks spoiled the shutout with a two-run home run in the seventh followed by an RBI single in the eighth.
Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) went 2-for-3 with three RBI as the senior catcher had a two-run single and a home run. Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) and Hunter Rauch (Lincoln, Del./Cape Henlopen) recorded two hits while Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) had two RBI.
Quinn Holt (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) was stellar on the mound as he tossed six scoreless innings and allowed one hit with 12 strikeouts. He now moves to 4-0 on the year. Emilio Portes (Rio Grande City, Tex./Monsignor Pace), Aidan Kee (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), and Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) threw an inning in relief with Portes and Kee combining for five strikeouts.
Game Two: Keystone 28, Penn State Berks 9 (7 inn.) Â
The second game turned into an offensive onslaught. Berks tallied two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.
The Giants added three runs in the second to go up, 3-2. The Nittany Lions bats got hot as they put up seven in the bottom half of the second.
Keystone would regain their composure as the squad scored 25 unanswered runs to regain the lead and seal the win.
Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/James J. Ferris) had five hits with two runs batted in. Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central) notched four hits while Rauch and Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) came away with three.
Boyle, Hagan, and Rauch had four RBI. Â Hagan, Rauch, Nicholas Franza (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Northeast), and Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) had a two-run home run in the contest.
Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) picked up the victory on the mound as he went 5.1 innings with two strikeouts. He allowed seven earned runs off nine hits. Brandon Girod (Elgin, Tex./Elgin) pitched 1.1 innings in relief and punched out a batter. Luke Baker (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain) struck out two in an inning of work.
