READING, Pa.- No. 25 Keystone College baseball team dropped a road contest to Alvernia University, 13-7, Tuesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first inning, Alvernia added three runs off an RBI and two-run double. They would score another run an inning later with a single and a score on the throw.
The Giants were able to crack the score column in the fourth as Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) brought a runner home with a single. The Golden Wolves responded with a two-run single in the bottom half of the fourth.
Keystone added three unanswered runs as Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) singled down the left field line in the fifth to bring home a run and he would score later off a groundout. Ewing added a two-run single in the sixth to make it a 6-5 ball game.
The bottom of the sixth would be costly for the Giants as Alvernia scored five times off two bases loaded walks, a solo home run, and a two-RBI single. Both teams would score once in the seventh and eighth inning.
Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central) went 3-for-4 at the dish while Ewing added two hits and a game high of four runs batted in. Hagan brought home two runs in the defeat. Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) suffered his first loss of the season as he gave up six earned runs off five hits and four walks in 3.1 innings of work.
Keystone (28-9) hosts Neumann University in their final regular season home game tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
