Giants Power Past Neumann, 14-0

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team powered past Neumann University 14-0 Wednesday afternoon in their final regular season home game.

Keystone opened the game with a bang in the bottom of the first with back-to-back home runs by Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) and Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area). The Giants scored once in the second with an RBI double by Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central).

They would break it open in the third as they poured on seven runs as Boyle brought home two runs with a single, a Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) grand slam, and a solo shot by Rivas, his second home run of the game.

Dee Rice (Simpsonville, S.C./Dorman) brought home two in the fifth with a single and advanced to second on the throw.

Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/James J. Ferris) had four hits and scored three times while Boyle tallied three hits and three RBI. Rivas had two home runs with four runs batted in. 

Brandon Girod (Elgin, Tex./Elgin) started and earned his first win as he went four innings with four strikeouts. Ewing, Luke Baker (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mountain), and Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) tossed an inning in relief. Ewing struck out two batters while Baker and Byler had one.

Keystone (29-9) earned the top seed in the United East Conference Tournament and will host No. 9 seed Wilson College in a best-of-three second round series on Friday, May 2. The Phoenix defeated No. 8 Saint Elizabeth University in the first-round matchup on Tuesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. and game two will follow afterwards.  If necessary, the third game will be played on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
