Baseball Falls to Denison in Regional Final

GRANVILLE, Ohio- The Keystone College baseball team wrapped up the 2025 season as they were defeated by No. 2/4 Denison University 13-2 Sunday afternoon in the Granville Regional Championship at Big Red Field.

Keystone got on the board in the opening frame as Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/James J. Ferris) crossed home plate in the top of the first. With runners on the corners, Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central) attempted to steal second and got caught in a small rundown.

The Big Red would take a big lead as they scored seven in the fourth from two bases loaded walks, a sacrifice fly, a two-run double, and a two-run home run by Eric Sundgren.

The Giants broke through with one run in the sixth off as Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) drew a walk with the bases loaded. Denison dropped two runs in the bottom half from a fielder's choice, another sacrifice fly, and a throwing error.

Denison kept adding onto their big lead as Jack Lutte brought home two with a single. Keystone had multiple opportunities to score throughout the game, but they were unable to bring more across.

Estrada went 2-for-3 in the loss. He was the lone Giant with multiple hits in the contest.

Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) grabbed the loss as he went 3.1 innings with five strikeouts. He gave up six earned runs off one hit and walked five. Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Brandon Valles (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), and Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) came in relief. Valles and Sorrentino, and Gravel recorded a punchout.
