Complete Team Effort Carries Keystone to Dominant Win

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.- The Keystone College women's basketball team used relentless defense and a balanced offensive effort to pull away early and cruise to a 62–26 road victory over the University of Valley Forge Saturday afternoon.

After a slow offensive start from both teams in the opening minutes, the Giants found their rhythm midway through the first quarter and never looked back, building an 11–7 lead after one before breaking the game open with a dominant 24–5 second quarter to take full control by halftime.

Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) powered Keystone with a game-high 18 points on an efficient shooting performance, knocking down a pair of threes while also attacking the basket effectively. Tayana Bibbins (Lincoln, Del./Sussex Technical) added 10 points while Clarissa Peterson (Wichita Falls, Tex./Wichita Falls) anchored the interior with nine points and a game-best nine rebounds. Daphney Cadichon (Long Island, N.Y./Canarsie) chipped in nine points off the bench and Angelise Sanchez (Atlanta, Ga./Ocoee) finished with eight.

Valley Forge was led by Lucy Mauerman's 20 points and eight rebounds.

Keystone's defensive pressure was the story of the day, overwhelming the Patriots and forcing 45 turnovers, which turned into 31 points the other way. The Giants limited Valley Forge to just 25 percent shooting from the field and only one made three-pointer, while also dominating fast break chances and second chance opportunities.

Keystone won every quarter and closed the second half with consistent energy to seal the 36-point conference victory.

The Giants (3-11, 2-1 United East) face Penn College Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
