SCRANTON, PA- The Giants dropped game one of their non-conference doubleheader at Marywood Monday afternoon, falling 10-0 in five innings. The Giants stayed competitive in game two, eventually falling to the Pacers by a score of 8-0.
Game One: (Marywood 10, Keystone 0)
The Giants showed early signs of life offensively, collecting six hits on the day, including multi-hit efforts from Briana Aponte (El Paso, Tex./Chapin) and solid knocks from Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley), and Amaia Smith (Berlin, N.J./Overbrook). Keystone threatened in multiple innings, including putting runners on in the second, fourth, and fifth, but was unable to push a run across.
Marywood eventually broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with an inside-the-park home run before putting the game out of reach in the fourth. The Pacers capitalized on timely hitting in the frame, stringing together multiple extra-base hits as part of a nine-run inning. Despite the final score, the Giants continued to battle at the plate late, loading the bases in the fifth inning before Marywood was able to close out the game.
Game Two: (Marywood 8, Keystone 0)
The Giants recorded three hits in the contest, with Shalimar Lopez Ramirez (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall), Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley), and Aimee Lyons (Ajax, ON/Pickering) each picking up base knocks. Keystone looked to build some momentum early and again in the fifth inning, but was unable to string together a scoring rally.
Marywood broke things open in the second inning, using a series of extra-base hits and timely singles to plate six runs and take control of the game. The Pacers added two more runs in the fifth to secure the sweep.
The Giants next battle is back at home as the team takes on the University of Valley Forge in a United East Conference doubleheader on April 15.Â
