Softball Drops Pair to Penn College

LA PLUME, PA- Keystone dropped a pair of games to Penn College on Tuesday at Edmunds Field, falling 9-0 in the opener before a 14-6 loss in game two, but the Giants showed persistence and flashes of offensive life as the afternoon went on.

Game One: (Penn 9, Keystone 0)

Game one was controlled by Penn College from the start, as Keystone struggled to get the bats going against a strong pitching performance. Briana Aponte (El Paso, Tex./Chapin) accounted for the team's lone hit, and while the offense couldn't find its rhythm, the Giants continued to battle through each inning against a tough opponent.

Game Two: (Penn 14, Keystone 6)

The second game told a more complete story for Keystone, particularly as the lineup settled in and began to produce. After Penn College jumped out to an early lead, the Giants responded with improved at-bats and more consistent contact. Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) and Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) each came through with extra-base hits, helping ignite the offense.

Keystone's biggest moment came in the fifth inning, when the team rallied for five runs to cut into a large deficit. Aponte and Benitez delivered key RBI hits during the surge, and the Giants capitalized on opportunities to keep the pressure on and show their ability to string together productive innings.

The team finished with eight hits in game two and continued to compete defensively and at the plate despite the early hole. While Penn College's offense proved difficult to contain across the doubleheader, Keystone's effort never wavered, highlighted by their late push and more balanced performance in the nightcap.
