Baseball Dominates Alvernia Ahead of Regular Season Finale, Shevchik Now With 799 Career Wins

LA PLUME, PA- Keystone baseball welcomed Alvernia University for their final home matchup of the regular season, dominating the Golden Wolves in an 8-1 win. Head coach Jamie Shevchik now stands with 799 career wins ahead of the regular season finale at Neumann University.

Keystone 8, Alvernia 1:

The Giants did not waste any time getting the bats hot, as the team knocked in three runs in the first inning of play. Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) tripled to left center, scoring both Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) and Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield). Both Ruby and Moreta reached base on a single through the left side. Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) singled to right center, setting Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) up for the third run of the contest. The Golden Wolves were able to get out of the inning before the Giants could do any further damage.

The second inning saw much of the same out of Keystone, with the home team knocking in two runs to set up the early 5-0 lead. Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) continued to shine with a single to left center that nearly went out of the park, scoring Erick Castro (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area). Ruby came around and scored later in the inning with a Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) double down the left field line that just stayed fair. The Giants held the 5-0 lead heading into the third inning.

The Giants pitching unit, led by Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian), continued to shine, allowing just one hit through the first five inning of play. Alvernia was able to knock in their second hit in the sixth inning, but the Giants already held the 8-0 lead dating back to the fourth. Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) once more delivered, doubling to left center, scoring Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield). Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) stayed hot with a single up the middle, scoring Ruby, with Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) doubling to left field to score Pascual. The Golden Wolves highlight of the game was a home run in the ninth inning, but they were unable to mount any kind of comeback, falling to Keystone 8-1.

The Giants have one game remaining in the regular season against Neumann University, where head coach Jamie Shevchik can write history with his 800th career win. The Giants take on the Knights on the road on April 29 at 3:30 PM. Keystone will return home to Christy Mathewson Field on May 1 for the second round of the United East Conference playoffs, where the team eagerly awaits the winner of the Penn State Brandywine and Wilson College opening round contest.
