LA PLUME, PA- The 2016 Keystone College baseball team put together the most successful season in program history, combining conference dominance, a regional championship and a historic run to the NCAA Division III National Championship Series.

As Keystone Athletics counts down to the 2026 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on October 9, the department will highlight one member of this year's Hall of Fame Class each Friday. This week, the series continues with the 2016 baseball team, which will be inducted alongside Hope Santana, Malcolm Boone and Brian Slater as part of the Class of 2026.

Led by 15th-year head coach Jamie Shevchik, the Giants finished the 2016 season with a 40-11 overall record and a 15-3 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. Keystone captured its eighth consecutive CSAC championship and 12th overall conference title, continuing one of the most dominant stretches in program history.

The Giants entered the postseason having already established themselves as the class of the conference.

Keystone swept three games in the CSAC playoffs to claim the conference championship, extending its CSAC playoff winning streak to 24 consecutive games. The championship also marked the 500th career victory for Shevchik, who reached the milestone in his 15th season at the helm of the Giants.

Chris Triano was named the CSAC Championship Most Valuable Player after batting .308 during the three-game tournament with two home runs, seven RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

The Giants carried that momentum into the NCAA Division III Tournament, earning the No. 4 seed in the New England Regional.

Keystone swept all four games at the regional tournament, defeating Suffolk, Salem State and Tufts twice to capture the NCAA New England Regional Championship. The Giants outscored their opponents 30-11 during the four-game run and extended their winning streak to 10 games.

Triano continued his outstanding postseason by earning NCAA New England Regional Championship Most Valuable Player honors after batting .529 with seven RBI, one home run and an .824 slugging percentage. He was joined on the regional All-Tournament Team by pitcher Jesse Arnold.

The regional championship sent Keystone to the NCAA Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin, for the second time in program history.

The Giants opened the World Series with a 16-3 victory over St. John Fisher before defeating La Roche twice, 6-1 and 5-4, to win the Pool B bracket. With three consecutive victories, Keystone advanced to the best-of-three national championship series.

Keystone faced Trinity University in the championship series, with the Tigers taking the opening game, 14-6. Trinity then completed the championship with a 10-7 victory in Game Two, ending the Giants' historic season.

Despite falling short of the national championship, Keystone finished 40-11 and earned the NCAA Division III National Runner-Up distinction, completing what the program described as the most successful season in school history.

The Giants' success was also reflected in the individual recognition earned throughout the season.

Felix Baez was named CSAC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and later earned ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year honors. Baez was also selected to the ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-America squad.

Triano joined Baez on the ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-America team after an outstanding junior season. He was also named First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region by both ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com while earning both CSAC Championship MVP and NCAA New England Regional MVP honors.

The Giants also placed three players—Billy Nelson, Chris Triano and Jesse Arnold—on the NCAA Division III College World Series All-Tournament Team.

From its eighth consecutive conference championship to its run through the NCAA Tournament, the 2016 season represented the sustained success and championship standard that defined Keystone baseball during the era.

The 2016 Giants are set to be inducted into the Keystone College Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 on October 9 at 5 p.m.

A 40-win season, an eighth consecutive CSAC championship, an NCAA regional title and a national runner-up finish cement the 2016 baseball team as one of the defining teams in Keystone College Athletics history.
